Thanks. Glad you're enjoying the blog. I recommend the Skinner peep sight over the Marbles. It's posted at the top of this page. It's out of the way, close to the rifle so you don't have to worry about snagging or breaking it off. Once adjusted it stays put. It looks good and no drilling is required. I am much happier with it than with Marble's sight. The Marble sight kept loosening up and require readjustment. It also gouged my thumb, which was the main reason I got rid of it. The company offered to take it back and round it out, but I wanted to test out what you would be buying and not a customized sight. That's my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. Let me know how you make out, what you decide to do and if you send me a photo I'll be happy to post it.

Hi Bob,

Great Blog. I was wondering if you think the Marbles Peep would work well on a Henry Big Boy 357; it seems that would effectively eliminate the kick issue. I have one on a Henry Frontier and it works great (except for the windage knob on the right - should have been on the left or even configurable).

i have a similar marbles site for my henry golden boy. 22. yes, it leaves me with a bloody thumb too :( very disappointed but like you, if i remove it, i'm left with a hole in the receiver. i'm currently looking at the skinner sight (seems that henry recommends them) to replace the marbles.

Hi Joe. Yes, thanks. I had a very nice Thanksgiving and spent a lot of time in the woods. Hope you had a nice one too. Regarding the sights, that will wait till hunting season is over in the spring. It's just a matter of cutting down the front sight and shouldn't be a big deal. Let me know how you make out. I'll post photos of you'd like to send some. Right now I'm concentrating on rimfire. In the Spring I'll get back into reloading and sighting in the Big Boys.

It's been a while since you installed your Skinner Sights. My son just ordered two as a Christmas present for my Big Boy and Golden Boy rifles. I told him not to order the replacement front sights because of the adjustment issues you were having on your rifles. Figured I'd just try the factory sights first to see if they'd work. I'll prob have the Skinner's installed after hunting season and sight them in at the shooting club I belong to in PA. I was just curious as to whether or not you resolved the issues you had with the Skinner front sights. Did you file them down or replace them with the original factory sights? My question to Henry -- "As this is a heavy round normally, and wanting to be able to reach out as much as possible, I am considering CorBon and Buffalo 45 LC rounds for hunting… those are acceptable rounds, pressure ‘wise, right?"

The answer from Henry -- ". Any of the 250gr selections from those companies will serve you well. The action has the same tensile strength as steel,so don't worry about the pressure. The only issue would be the length as some of the 300gr cartidges are really only possible to feed into a revolver's cylinder."

Looking forward to their response Bob. Humm, I wonder if the stock front sights on the Henry would've given you better results? Your experience is leading the way as too how my installation of the Skinner system will be Bob.

It likely is Joe, but I'd like to hear it from them before I begin playing with it. The required adjustment is so great that I doubt any amount of turning a screw is going to work. I have a feeling they will need to send a shorter front sight. I'll post as soon as I hear from them. Thanks.

The sights look beautiful Bob. I see you went with the drilled and tapped version. You ordered the front sights too I noticed. Was that something recommended by Skinner or did you just order them for the aesthetics of the rifle? I was told by Andy that sometimes the factory sights work with the front sights other times you have to have them replaced. Just curious. I can't wait to get mine, they really look like a well made product. Can't wait to see your results too. :-)

Trial and error I guess Bob. I was really considering the Marble sights too because they looked so authentic on your gun. I really didn't want to drill any holes though into the brass or barrel. I just kept researching with a bit of patients and stumbled upon the Skinners on that forum link. When I saw that Mr. Imperato endorsed them it was a no brainer. Yea, let me know how they work out. I think those brass ones will really add a nice accent to the Henry Big and Golden Boy. I won't get mine installed until the Christmas holidays. I'm getting a couple of those Skinner sights to test out. Right now my 44 Mag is at the gunsmith who is plugging the screw hole with a brass screw. He said it should almost disappear. I'm getting rid of the Marble peep sight. The edges are too sharp and it is expended all the way up and keep loosening up. Time to try something simpler. I'll let you know when I get it and how it works.

Well, I was gonna ask my son to get the Skinner sights as a Christmas gift since I need two, one for the Big boy and one for the Golden Boy. I'll let you know when they're installed but prob after Christmas. I have reviewed some comments about the sight and everything looks positive. Here's a link to a thread where one fellow said it really tightened up his groups on the Big Boy.

Thanks Joe. The Marble peep sight has been taking a chunk of flesh out of my right thumb when the .44 mag recoils, so I've been considering removing the sight and replacing it with the stock iron sight. This looks like an interesting option because I really like the peep sight. As you said, it doesn't require drilling, so you won't have a hole in your brass like I now do. Let me know if you buy it and what you think. If you send me a photo I'll post it. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm considering a peep sight for both my Big Boy and Golden Boy rifles. I do like the marble sights on your gun but the price was a bit steep for my budget. Besides, you have to drill into the receiver which bumps up the cost unless you have machinist capabilities which I don't lol. The sights I'm looking at are from Skinner. All you have to do is tap the old buckhorn out and tap in the new peep sight. They even have a brass sight to compliment the aesthetics of the original brass components. The blue steel sight is $48.00 while the brass sight a buck higher. Here's the link.
